THE GLOBAL MEETINGS INDUSTRY DAY

New research from Oxford Economics affirms that face-to-face business meetings across 180 countries contributed $1.5 trillion of GDP in 2017 – more than the economies of Australia, Spain, Mexico, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The research also shows that meetings support 25.9 million jobs worldwide.

To shine a light on these results and others, the Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) brings together thousands of industry professionals and third-party allies to host rallies, educational panels, networking sessions and more.

“GMID provides a platform for us to come together with leaders in business, government and the media to demonstrate the significant impact our industry provides,” said Julie Coker Graham, president and CEO of Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and co-chair of MMBC. “The participation of organizations like Zuri Events  is critical to GMID’s success and its continued growth in cities around the world.”

Zuri Events joins organizations across six continents to support the fourth annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID). GMID, led by the advocacy coalition Meetings Mean Business, showcases the proven value that face-to-face business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions bring to businesses and the economy.

Zuri Events will hold a Meetings Industry Stakeholder Cocktail party at Weston Hotel to shine light on the importance of the Meetings Industry to develop a destination. Discussions will be held around the theme: The Future of the Meetings and Events Industry in East Africa.

Speakers include:

  1.    Jeffers Miruka – President, African Society of Association Executives
  2.    Beatrice Makawiti – Senior Lecturer, Technical University of Kenya
  3.    Cosmas Kimanzi – Strathmore University
  4.    Jonah Orumoi – Managing Director, Tourism Finance Corporation

The event will be moderated by Ms. Kezy Mukiri, the C.E.O and Founder of Zuri Events

QUOTE FROM ORGANIZER.

“ We are honoured to bring together our industry partners and stakeholders to  celebrate the enduring value and contribution of the Meetings & Events Industry.  Business Events contribute over $2.53 trillion in global economic impact. As we know, travellers who visit a destination for Business Events, Meetings, Conferences and Exhibitions 4 times more on average than Leisure travellers. As a Business Events company, Zuri Events is committed to continue providing platforms for engagement on the critical importance of MICE and its economic impact to Kenya as a destination. We will be hosting the 2nd annual Global MICE Summit in September this year to engage stakeholders on promoting the destination as a strong destination for conferencing, tradeshows and business Events. With increased air travel connections and the growth of the hotel and meetings industry in Kenya, we are more poised to host more conferences and business events. We look forward to the formation of a convention bureau and to seeing more investment into the growth of the MICE industry in Kenya.” Kezy Mukiri, CEO Zuri Events.
